Eavesdropper, a stakes winning and graded stakes performing sprinter, is half-brother to A.P. Indy and Summer Squall. He is also closely related to successful young sire, Lemon Drop Kid.
Eavesdropper is a Mr. Prospector grandson who is free of Northern Dancer, and can be expected to cross very well over that strain. Among the branches of the Northern Dancer line which have done particularly well with Kingmambo are Sadler's Wells (who has been represented in North America by El Prado) and Nijinsky II; Danzig (whose sons Green Desert and Chief’s Crown are broodmare sires of Lemon Drop Kid stakes winners), and Dixieland Band. Kingmambo and Lemon Drop Kid both have group or graded winners out of mares by Storm Cat (by Storm Bird) and Kingmambo also has a group winner out of a mare by The Minstrel, and a group one winner out of a mare by a son of Try My Best, a brother to El Gran Senor. There is also a stakes winner by a son of Kingmambo out of a mare by Theatrical, son of Nureyev. It would also be interesting to try Eavesdropper with mares by Summer Squall to achieve inbreeding to the outstanding mare, Weekend Surprise. Lemon Drop Kid also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Vice Regent.
Kingmambo has enjoyed considerable success with mares by Seattle Slew, the most notable example being champion Lemon Drop Kid, who is from this immediate family. Among the sons of Seattle Slew who might work well here are A. P. Indy (who would give inbreeding to Weekend Surprise), Capote (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by Lemon Drop Kid), Houston, Seattle Song, Septieme Ciel, Slew City Slew, Slew o' Gold, Slewpy and Tsunami Slew.
Kingmambo has two graded stakes winners, one grade one, out of mares by Private Account (by Damascus), and Lemon Drop Kid has two stakes winners out of a mares by the same sire.
Kingmambo and Lemon Drop Kid have enjoyed success with Ribot line mares. Lemon Drop Kid has stakes winners out of mares by Pleasant Tap and his sire Pleasant Colony (by His Majesty). Kingmambo also has two stakes winners, including the group one winner, Dubai Destination, out of mares by Alleged (by Hoist the Flag, a son of the Ribot stallion Tom Rolfe).
Lemon Drop Kid has a graded stakes winner out of a mare by Geiger Counter, a Mr. Prospector half-brother to Special, the dam of Nureyev (broodmare sire of Kingmambo). This is the Thong/Rough Shod II family, and can be brought in through the previously mentioned Sadler's Wells (and his brother, Fairy King), Lear Fan, Alysheba, Apalachee and King Pellinore. If one wished to try Eavesdropper back over Mr. Prospector line mares, look particularly for daughters by stallions bred on the Mr. Prospector/Northern Dancer cross, such as Thunder Gulch, Elusive Quality, Grand Slam, Distorted Humor, Fusaichi Pegasus and Smoke Glacken.
We can also note that Lemon Drop Kid’s Kentucky Oaks (G1) winner Lemons Forever, is out of a mare by a son of Grey Dawn II, and he also has a grade one winner out of a mare by Lord a War, with a second dam by Grey Dawn II.
