The fastest two-year-old of his generation, Ready’s Image is an effective outcross for Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector line mares.
The offspring of Ready’s Image will be free of Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector for four generations on the sire’s side of the pedigree. And since, Ready’s Image’s sire, More Than Ready, has been extremely effective with both Northern Dancer and Mr. Prospector, both strains are strongly indicated for Ready’s Image.
More Than Ready has enjoyed spectacular success with the Danzig branch of Northern Dancer, and particularly good strains to use here include Danehill (whose brother, Eagle Eyed, stood in the U.S.), Pine Bluff, Polish Numbers and Langfuhr--all already broodmare sires of More Than Ready stakes winners--and Ascot Knight. More Than Ready has sired stakes winners out of mares descending from Northern Dancer through Storm Cat and his son Forest Wildcat. Sons of Storm Cat out of Mr. Prospector line mares, such as Tale of the Cat, Storm Boot, Storm Creek and Pure Prize, might be particularly interesting. More Than Ready also has stakes winners out of mares descending from Northern Dancer through Dixieland Band, El Gran Senor and his brother Try My Best, and from Lyphard (out of a mare by Manila). Mares from the Sadler’s Wells (sire of El Prado) branch of this line should also do well. Ready’s Image is out of a mare by Clever Trick, by Icecapade, a three-quarter relative to Northern Dancer, and More Than Ready also has a stakes winner out of mare by a son of Wild Again from this line. It would also be worth considering mares by Clever Trick sons, such as Phone Trick.
From the Mr. Prospector line, we would particularly recommend mares descending from stallions bred on the Mr. Prospector/Buckpasser cross, including Seeking the Gold (and his sons, Mutakddim and Petionville), Miswaki (sire of Black Tie Affair; grandsire of Formal Gold). In addition, More Than Ready also already has stakes winners out of mares descending from Mr. Prospector through Conquistador Cielo, Crafty Prospector (and his son Prospect Bay), Forty Niner (out of a mare by Gold Fever), Gulch (out of a mare by De Niro), Fortunate Prospect, Gone West (out of a mare by West By West), Fappiano (out of a mare by Defensive Play) and Native Prospector. Mr. Prospector is a son of Raise a Native, and Ready’s Image should also be suited by mares carrying any Raise a Native/Buckpasser crosses, daughters of Easy Goer being one example.
From the Bold Ruler line More Than Ready has stakes winners out of mares descending from Raja Baba (out of mares by Notebook and Formal Dinner), who could also be brought in through Is it True and his son Yes It’s True, and Seattle Slew (out of a mare by General Meeting), who might work well through A.P. Indy and sons. Bold Ruler is a Nasrullah son, and from the Naskra branch of this line More Than Ready has good stakes winners out of mares by Nasty and Bold and Olympia.
More Than Ready has sired a stakes winner out of a mare from the Time For A Change branch of the Damascus line, and it could also pay to introduce this line through Private Account and his sons (particularly Private Terms). We can also note More Than Ready stakes winners out of mares by Meadowlake, Lord Avie, Broad Brush, Blushing John, Warning and Sunny Clime (both from the In Reality line) and Great Above.
