BREEDING SUGGESTIONS FROM ALAN PORTER

JUMP TO

A speedy stakes performer who ran a 107 Beyer Speed Figure,  Roar of the Tiger is a brother to the sensational sire, Giant’s Causeway.

Storm Cat sons in general have worked extremely well over Mr. Prospector line mares, and Giant’s Causeway has shown an exceptional affinity for this strain. Giant’s Causeway already has 12 stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares, two, including grade one winner Aragorn, out of mares by Mr. Prospector himself. He also has stakes winners out of mares descending from Mr. Prospector through Kingmambo, Seeking the Gold, Miswaki, Forty Niner and Gone West. Storm Cat line sires have also done well over Mr. Prospector through Afleet, Carson City, Crafty Prospector, Fappiano (who is broodmare sire of a graded stakes winner by Giant’s Causeway, and whose sons include Cahill Road, Pentelicus, Cryptoclearance, Quiet American, Unbridled and Rubiano), Geiger Counter, Gulch, Jade Hunter and Woodman.

Mr. Prospector is a son of Raise a Native, and Storm Cat and his sons have also done well with mares descending from Raise a Native through Exclusive Native (and his son Affirmed), and Alydar, whose sons include Turkoman, Saratoga Six, Easy Goer, Alysheba, Strike the Gold, Criminal Type, Jeblar and Wheaton. Giant’s Causeway also has a stakes winner out of a mare by Raise a Native’s son, Banner Sport.

Storm Cat line stallions have crossed very well over Seattle Slew line mares, including A.P Indy, Capote, General Meeting, Gold Legend, Seattle Song and Slewpy.

Storm Cat and his sons have been very successful with Damascus line mares, with sources including Private Account and sons; Time For a Change (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by Giant’s Causeway); Ogygian, Timeless Moment (sire of Gilded Time); Eastern Echo; Crusader Sword; and Bailjumper (sire of Skip Away).

The cross of Storm Cat line stallions over Blushing Groom line mares has been an extremely successful one with at least 25 stakes winners, eight of them grade one. Good sources of Blushing Groom will be Rahy, Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run) and Mt. Livermore.

The Storm Cat cross with Ribot line mares has produced 35 stakes winners, including five graded one winners. Likely Ribot line sources include His Majesty (particularly through Pleasant Colony and his sons); Hoist the Flag and sons, including Alleged (broodmare sire of a mare by Giant’s Causeway); and Graustark (including Key to the Mint).

Giant’s Causeway also has stakes winners out of mares by Olympio (by Naskra); Lord At War; Buckaroo (by Buckpasser); Sir Tristram (by Sir Ivor); Dixieland Band; Shirley Heights (by Mill Reef); Day Is Done (from the Round Table line); Chief Singer (from the Bold Ruler line) and Priolo (by Sovereign Dancer) and Bletchingly (from the Star Kingdom line). In addition, he has sired undefeated classic winner Footstepsinthesand, who is out of a mare by Rainbow Quest, who is from Giant’s Causeway’s own broodmare  sire line of Blushing Groom. This would encourage Blushing Groom through Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run) and Mt. Livermore.
