A speedy stakes performer who ran a Beyer Speed Figure of 107, Roar of the Tiger is a brother to both Giant’s Causeway – the Leading Sire of 2009 – and dominant New York sire Freud. Roar of the Tiger is the leading second season sire by Storm Cat, and his runners including undefeated graded stakes-winning two-year-old Bear Tough Guy.
Storm Cat sons in general have worked extremely well over Mr. Prospector line mares, and Giant’s Causeway has shown an exceptional affinity for this strain. Giant’s Causeway himself has already sired 27 stakes winners out of Mr. Prospector line mares, including out of mares by Seeking the Gold, Miswaki, Kingmambo, Forty Niner, Gone West and his son Zafonic, Fappiano (and his son Defensive Play, and grandsons Unbridled’s Song and Ride the Rails), Machiavellian, Crafty Prospector, Lycius, Jade Hunter, Thunder Gulch (by Gulch) and Hansel (by Woodman).
Mr. Prospector is a son of Raise a Native, and Storm Cat and his sons have also done well with mares descending from Raise a Native through Exclusive Native (and his son Affirmed), and Alydar, whose sons include Turkoman, Saratoga Six, Easy Goer, Alysheba, Strike the Gold, Criminal Type, Jeblar and Wheaton. Giant’s Causeway also has stakes winners out of mares descending from Raise a Native through Majestic Light and Banner Sport.
Storm Cat line stallions have crossed very well over Seattle Slew line mares and Roar of the Tiger’s graded winner Bear Tough Guy is out of a mare by Seattle Slew’s son Capote. There are also Storm Cat line stakes winners out of mares by Seattle Slew sons A.P Indy, General Meeting, Gold Legend, Seattle Song and Slewpy.
Storm Cat and his sons have been very successful with Damascus line mares, with sources including Private Account and sons; Time For a Change (broodmare sire of a stakes winner by Giant’s Causeway); Ogygian; Timeless Moment (sire of Gilded Time); Eastern Echo; Crusader Sword; and Bailjumper (sire of Skip Trial, grandsire of Skip Away).
The cross of Storm Cat line stallions over Blushing Groom line mares has been an extremely successful one with at least 25 stakes winners, eight of them grade one. Good sources of Blushing Groom will be Rahy, Runaway Groom (sire of Cherokee Run) and Mt. Livermore.
The Storm Cat cross with Ribot line mares has produced 45 stakes winners, including five grade one winners. Likely Ribot line sources include His Majesty (particularly through Pleasant Colony and his sons); Hoist the Flag and sons, including Alleged (broodmare sire of a stakes mare by Giant’s Causeway); Graustark (including Key to the Mint); and Lost Code (by Codex).
Crossed back over mares from the Northern Dancer line, Giant’s Causeway has sired grade one winners out of mares by Dixieland Band and Danehill (a son of Danzig); a classic winner of a mare by Alzao (by Lyphard); graded stakes winners of a mares by Dehere and French Deputy (by Deputy Minister); and graded stakes winners out of mares by Theatrical and Fasliyev (by Nureyev); Sadler’s Wells; Shareef Dancer; and Priolo (by Sovereign Dancer).
Giant’s Causeway also has stakes winners out of mares by Shirley Heights (by Mill Reef); Chief Singer (a Bold Ruler line horse); Olympio (by Naskra); Lord At War; Bertrando (from the Relaunch branch of In Reality); Day is Done (a grandson of Round Table); Halo; and Buckaroo (by Buckpasser).
